“A Pen Maker’s Canvas” Series;
It does’t matter if you are a sketch artist drawing with a pencil, a painter using oil on a canvas or a child painting with water colors on a paper sack. Every artist is limited by the size of their canvas. Pen makers are no different, except their canvas is usually 3/4″ x 3/4″ x 5″ long in size. Now that is a small canvas! In this series, which I’ve titled “A Pen Maker’s Canvas” we’ll look at the different aspects of making a segmented pen blank.In Part 1 of this three part series we discuss the design, cutting and gluing of a segmented pen blank. In Part 2 we explore the use of aluminum rods as accents in a segmented pen blank, and in Part 3 we create a custom finial to “cap off” our Pen Maker’s Canvas series (that video will be published on Feb 21st.
